Improving rule of law and judicial efficiency a key priority on EU path

 

Podgorica, (MINA) - Improving the rule of law and the efficiency of the judicial system remains a key priority on Montenegro’s European path, it was stated during the meeting between Supreme Court President of the Valentina Pavlicic and Minister of Justice of Austria Anna Sporrer.

According to the press release from the Supreme Court, the meeting noted that concrete results in the fight against organized crime and corruption must further strengthen citizens’ trust in institutions.

“During the meeting, special attention was paid to the reform processes in the Montenegrin judiciary in the final phase of EU negotiations”, the press release said.

Pavlicic pointed to concrete results achieved in the previous period, including the development of guidelines for handling cases of organized crime and high-level corruption.

“Significant progress in the resolution of backlog cases were highlighted, with between 60 and 80 percent of these cases resolved in most courts, which represents an important step towards a more efficient judiciary”, the press release states.

Sporrer said that Austria is ready to continue providing support to Montenegro in judicial reform, and Pavlicic emphasized that Montenegro will remain a reliable partner in building and protecting European standards of the rule of law.
