Ibrahimovic: Credible EU enlargement policy best instrument for regional stability

Podgorica, (MINA) - A credible EU enlargement policy is the most effective instrument of stability in the Western Balkans region, said Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimovic, adding that Montenegro’s European path is marked by consistency, full alignment and commitment to reforms.

According to the press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Ibrahimovic took part in the informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member states and the Western Balkans countries, held on the sidelines of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.

“The Western Balkans is an integral part of the European security area”, Ibrahimovic said, adding that regional stability remains a key prerequisite for democratic development and institutional resilience.

He emphasized the importance of a credible EU enlargement policy.

According to Ibrahimovic, a credible and accelerated enlargement policy is the most efficient instrument for preserving long-term stability, especially in circumstances of increased malign external influences.

“Montenegro strongly supports a merit-based enlargement policy, with a clear membership perspective and predictability of the process”, said Ibrahimovic, recalling that the country’s main foreign policy goal is to achieve full EU membership by the end of 2028.

Speaking about regional cooperation, Ibrahimovic emphasized that Montenegro remains committed to fostering good neighborly relations and supporting initiatives that strengthen connectivity, economic integration and mutual trust in the Western Balkans.
