HRA: Judges and prosecutors to be allowed to work until 67

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Human Rights Action (HRA) has submitted suggestions to the Draft Law on Salaries and Other Rights in the Exercise of Judicial Office, including the initiative to allow judges and state prosecutors to remain in office until the age of 67.

The HRA announced that it submitted five proposals and suggestions to the Draft Law to the Ministry of Justice during the public consultations.

They added that they proposed that judges, state prosecutors and Constitutional Court judges be allowed to hold office until the age of 67, noting that employees in other professions are already allowed to remain in employment until that age.

“The age limit of 66 years, proposed by the Ministry of Justice, creates inequality among professions, because recent amendments to the Labor Law allow employees in other professions in Montenegro to work until the age of 67”, the press release reads.

The HRA pointed out that the premature retirement from judicial positions is harmful due to the already existing serious shortage of judges and state prosecutors.
