HRA, CGO and ANIMA invite citizens to memorial gathering in Herceg Novi

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Human Rights Action (HRA), Center for Civic Education (CGO) and Center for Women’s and Peace Education ANIMA have called on citizens to attand a memorial gathering on Monday in Herceg Novi, to mark the anniversary of the forced of deportation of Bosnian-Herzegovinian refugees from Montenegro in 1992.

In the joint press release, submitted by HRA, it is stated that the gathering will be held in front of the Security Center in Herceg Novi.

“We are organizing the gathering as an expression of the conscience of Montenegrin society, in memory of the victims of the crime and in support of their families”, the press release says.

The NGOs noted that they have long advocated for the prosecution of those responsible for the crime, as well as for the erection of a memorial dedicated to the victims and for the state to establish May 25 as a day of remembrance for those who suffered in the deportation.

“We will continue to do so this year as well. This marks the 22nd year that civil society organizations have organized a memorial gathering, and the 17th year that it has been held in front of the Police Administration building in Herceg Novi, from where most of the refugees were forcibly taken and handed over to the Army of the Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, the press release said.
