Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Ministry of Energy and Mining announced that the Gvozd wind farm officially entered trial operation this evening, as part of an €82 million project.
At a formal event held in Krnovo, it was announced that the works had been completed ahead of schedule.
According to the Ministry, the wind farm has a capacity of 150 gigawatt-hours of electricity, enough to supply power to 25,000 households.
Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Sahmanovic said that today marks not only the commissioning of a new wind farm, but also the opening of a new chapter in Montenegro’s development.
“With the launch of the Gvozd wind farm, Montenegro is getting its first major state-owned renewable energy project. This is not just an energy project, but a symbol of a new development direction,” Sahmanovic said.
According to him, this proves that the energy transition is becoming a reality.
“We are sending a message that Montenegro knows where it is headed and that energy is a matter of development and stability,” Sahmanovic said.
He added that the Gvozd wind farm is an investment in Montenegro’s security, energy independence, and economic future.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajic sad that citizens would not pay additional subsidies for the Gvozd wind farm.
“The Gvozd wind farm is owned by EPCG and will operate according to market principles. Investments in the energy sector are our priority and development opportunity. Through the Gvozd wind farm, we are protecting the environment, as it will reduce harmful gas emissions equivalent to those produced by 60,000 cars,” Spajic explained.
He described the Gvozd wind farm as one of the most important projects in the country’s modern history.
In addition to representatives of EPCG and the energy sector, the ceremony marking the launch of the Gvozd wind farm’s trial operation was attended by German Ambassador to Montenegro Peter Felten, representatives of the German company Nordex, which carried out construction works on the project, as well as representatives of the Municipality of Niksic.
The project was implemented through a loan arrangement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
