Podgorica, (MINA) - The Government of Montenegro, in accordance with the GRECO recommendations and at the proposal of the National Council for the Fight against Corruption, has established the Integrity Commission, with the aim of strengthening the system of prevention of corruption among holders of the highest executive branch offices.
According to the Government’s press release, the task of the Commission will be to provide confidential counseling and continuous training for senior executive branch officials, related to conflict of interest, integrity, prevention of corruption and other anti-corruption obligations.
“This not only implements an important GRECO recommendation, but also strengthens the capacities of the executive branch and sends a message about the Government’s readiness to carry out responsible tasks in line with the highest anti-corruption standards”, says the press release.
It is stated that the establishment of the Commission represents another concrete step towards building of a system in which responsibility is not a political slogan, but an institutional obligation and continuous task.
“The government hereby confirms that the prevention and fight against corruption begins precisely with those who make the most important decisions in the country”, the press release adds.
The Government said that this measure is part of the Government’s comprehensive policy on the prevention of corruption and strengthening integrity among the senior executive officials, as well as aligning with international standards.
They explained that the members of the Commission would include representatives of the Government’s General Secretariat, the Secretariat for Legislation and the Ministry of Justice.
