Government adopts Occupational Safety and Health Bill

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Dialogue, the Government has adopted the Bill on Occupational Safety and Health, marking a significant step toward improving workplace safety and the protection of employees’ health across all sectors.

“The proposed legal solutions are aligned with the European Union acquis under Chapter 19 – Social Policy and Employment, as well as with international conventions ratified by Montenegro, further bringing the occupational safety system closer to European standards,” the Ministry stated in a press release.

The legislative proposal, adopted at a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday, introduces modern technical, technological and organizational protection measures, clearly defined employee rights to safe and healthy working conditions, as well as the employer’s obligation to provide all protection measures at no additional cost to employees.

The proposed law also prescribes mandatory training and education in the field of occupational safety and health, strengthens coordination between employers, employees, employee representatives, social partners and the occupational safety inspectorate, and introduces the National Occupational Safety and Health Day – 28 April.

The Ministry added that the Bill confirms a clear commitment that employees are Montenegro’s most valuable resource and that their protection and health are a priority.
