Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Free internet access is now available in the central areas of Bar and Ulcinj, the company One Montenegro announced.
This is part of the WiFi4WB initiative, funded by the European Union and the Government of Germany, and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) within the EU4Digital project, with the aim of improving digital connectivity, strengthening the tourism industry, and bringing the region closer to European standards.
The telco operator selected to provide free internet at public spaces across Montenegro is the company One.
Its Executive Director, Branko Mitrovic, stated that digital connectivity is an important part of the tourist experience, especially at a time when coastal cities are seeing an increased number of visitors.
He added that free and reliable internet makes everyday life easier for citizens and improves the quality and simplicity of tourists’ stays, bringing them one step closer to European standards.
Mayor of Bar Dusan Raicevic said that connectivity and fast access to information are basic needs of modern society, especially in local communities like Bar.
“We are particularly pleased that our municipality is among the first where, through the regional WiFi4WB initiative, free WiFi is available,” said Raicevic.
Mayor of Ulcinj Genci Nimanbegu believes that the goal of this initiative is to improve the quality of stay for both citizens and tourists.
“In Ulcinj, as a city of tourism and openness, it is important for us to provide both citizens and visitors with modern conditions for daily life and stay. By introducing free WiFi in public spaces, our citizens gain easier access to information and digital services, while tourists can stay connected, and share their experiences from Ulcinj,” said Nimanbegu.
According to One, this is just the beginning, as WiFi4WB will bring connectivity to a total of 24 municipalities across Montenegro.
