Formation of Accession Treating drafting Working Party a historic step towards completing negotiations

 

Podgorica, (MINA) - The formation of an ad hoc Working Party for drafting of the Accession Treaty with the EU is a historic step towards the conclusion of the negotiation process, it was announced at the meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimovic and Slovenia’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Anzej Franges.

According to the press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ibrahimovic pointed out that relations between Montenegro and Slovenia are characterized by historical closeness and sincere friendship, as well as that excellent interstate relations are accompanied by intensive political dialogue at the highest level.

He thanked Slovenia for its continuous political and expert support for Montenegro’s European path, as well as for the optimism it shares regarding the country’s full-fledged EU membership.

“The interlocutors emphasized that the formation of an ad hoc Working Group for the drafting of the Accession Treaty represents a historic step towards the final stage of the negotiation process”, the press release says.

Ibrahimovic pointed out that regional cooperation remains one of the key priorities of Montenegrin foreign policy, as reflected in Montenegro’s chairmanship of the Berlin Process and the Western Balkans Fund.

Franges pointed out that Montenegro, as the candidate that has made the most progress in the accession process, is at the final phase of the negotiations.

He emphasized that it is crucial to maintain full commitment and focus in order to successfully close the remaining chapters.
