Final phase of negotiations in a year of historic decisions

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Finance Novica Vukovic said that the year in which Montenegro marks 20 years of independence is a turning point in the country’s European integration.

Speaking at an event organized by the Center of Excellence in Finance (CEF) from Ljubljana, titled “Celebrating Success and Strategically Reflecting on Future Reforms,” Vukovic delivered strong messages about Montenegro’s European path and priorities in the next phase of reforms.

Addressing global challenges and geopolitical uncertainties, Vukovic said that Montenegro remains firmly committed to EU membership, with a clear goal of achieving a historic breakthrough this year by closing accession negotiations.

Vukovic stated that success on the European path does not only mean formally closing negotiation chapters, but above all the ability to implement reforms in practice and deliver tangible benefits to citizens.

“Special emphasis was placed on the development of sustainable economic and fiscal policies that ensure long-term stability, encourage economic growth, and improve the quality of public services,” the Ministry said.

Vukovic highlighted the importance of strengthening capacities in public finance management, improving transparency, and building an efficient public administration as the foundation for long-term and sustainable reforms.

In that context, the key role of the CEF in strengthening professional and leadership capacities of institutions through continuous support and cooperation was also emphasized.
