Podgorica, (MINA) - Europe Day was celebrated on Wednesday in Kolasin, where a rich institutional and cultural program symbolically marked the beginning of the month dedicated to Europe and European values.
The central ceremony was held at the Kolasin Culture Center, attended by representatives of state institutions, the EU Delegation to Montenegro, local government, educational institutions and numerous citizens.
President of the Municipality of Kolasin Petko Bakic emphasized the importance of celebrating Europe Day at the local level and the role of municipalities in bringing European values closer to citizens.
“The EU is not only a political and economic project. It is, first of all, a community of values – solidarity, mutual respect, equal opportunities, cooperation and responsibility. We live these values in Kolasin as well, through the work of the local community, openness towards partners and care for each of our citizens”, said Bakic.
Montenegro’s Chief Negotiator with the EU Predrag Zenovic pointed out the importance of Europe Day as a reminder of the fundamental values on which the EU rests, but also as a confirmation of Montenegro’s European path.
Minister of Public Administration Marash Dukaj pointed out the importance of strengthening the capacity of local governments and their role in the European integration process.
EU Ambassador Johann Sattler emphasized that the EU remains committed to supporting Montenegro on its European path.
