EPCG and UNDP forge strategic partnership to develop green jobs

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Montenegro sees Elektroprivreda (EPCG) as a strategic partner in implementing Montenegro’s green agenda, particularly in the context of aligning with European and global climate and energy goals.

EPCG Executive Director Zdravko Dragas and UNDP Resident Representative Ekaterina Paniklova, together with their associates, met to discuss strengthening their partnership, with a focus on Montenegro’s green transition and sustainable development.

“UNDP sees EPCG as a strategic partner in implementing Montenegro’s green agenda, particularly in the context of alignment with European and global climate and energy goals, reducing emissions, developing renewable energy sources and strengthening capacities for new, green jobs,” says in a press release issued after the meeting.

During the meeting, progress in the implementation of joint initiatives was reviewed, including the implementation of EPCG’s ESG strategy, as well as activities arising from the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in mid-November 2024.

“The importance of EPCG’s role as a member of the Just Transition Council was particularly highlighted, with the company thereby confirming its commitment to the responsible management of energy transition processes and to supporting communities most affected by the transition,” the press release reads.

The meeting also addressed concrete opportunities for further cooperation on projects contributing to a just transition, the development of green skills, support for innovation and the empowerment of local communities.
