Podgorica, (MINA) – The European Parliament (EP) adopted on Wednesday the EU Enlargement Strategy, stating that the enlargement strengthens European security and that abandoning the process would come at a higher price than accepting new members, Deputy Prime Minister Filip Ivanovic announced.
Ivanovic stated on the X social network that the EP adopted the strategy, while the opposition MPs in the Parliament of Montenegro are withdrawing their support for European integration and obstructing the adoption of European laws with their behavior.
“Good news is coming from the EP: the EU Enlargement Strategy has been adopted, which assesses enlargement as strengthening European security and clearly states that abandoning that process would come at a far higher cost than accepting new members”, said Ivanovic.
He pointed out that it is particularly important that the Strategy recognizes strong enlargement possibilities in the near future and praises Montenegro’s ambition to complete the negotiations by the end of this year.
“What is particularly encouraging is the European Parliament’s call for enlargement to remain a strictly individual process, meaning that no candidate country should be treated as part of the package”, Ivanovic said.
