Election of Constitutional Court judges stressed as key requirement on EU path

Podgorica, (MINA) - The election of the Constitutional Court judges is one of the key “blue flags” on the Montenegro’s EU membership path, it was announced during the meeting between the President Jakov Milatovic and European Council President Antonio Costa.

According to the press release from Milatovic’s office, the Munich meeting between Milatovic and Costa focused on the negotiation process pace and the reforms that should enable Montenegro to become the next EU member by 2028.

“This phase requires political stability, strong institutions and clear progress in the rule of law. The selection of judges and the completion of the Constitutional Court represent one of the most important blue flags on the European path”, the meeting concluded.

The press release states that special attention was given to preparations for the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which will bring together European and regional leaders in Tivat on June 5.

Officials stressed that Montenegro is entering a decisive period of European integration.

“EU membership by 2028 is a realistic and attainable goal, but only with discipline, continuity of reforms and measurable results. The European path must not only be about ticking off obligations, but about hard work and fundamental transformation of the state”, the press release concluded.
