Podgorica, (MINA) - Montenegro is the most advanced country in the EU accession process, European Commission spokesperson, Guillaume Mercier said.

“EU enlargement is a merit-based process, not a competition between partners”, Mercier said in Brussels, RTCG reports.

According to him, each country makes progress at its own pace in implementing the necessary reforms.

Mercier remarked that Montenegro and Albania are both making good progress and demonstrating commitment to the European path, with Montenegro being the most advanced country in the process, having closed more than a third of the negotiation chapters.
