DPS: No discussion with Kovacevic about Independence Day celebration

DPS: No discussion with Kovacevic about Independence Day celebration

Podgorica, (MINA) - The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will mark the Independence Day on May 21 in an appropriate manner, as befits a party whose life’s work is an independent Montenegro, the party stated, adding that they cannot discuss the matter with Niksic Municipality President Marko Kovacevic.

Kovacevic said at the session of the Niksic Municipal Assembly that he had a different emotional attitude towards May 21, but that he was ready to jointly prepare the celebration of Montenegro’s Independence Day with the opposition.

Chair of Niksic DPS Committee Boris Muratovic said that, as the Independence Day is not a matter of daily politics but a fundamental value of statehood and identity, it is important to point out the evident contradiction in Kovacevic’s actions.

Muratovic said that Kovacevic obviously follows the line of leader of the New Serbian Democracy Andrija Mandic “that the same goal can be reached by different paths”, so he calls for a joint organization of the celebration, despite he has a different emotional attitude towards it.

“In that statement is the very essence of the politics that Kovacevic represents – the politics that does not recognize Montenegro’s independence, which has been working all this time to undermine its civic character, that is, the politics that glorifies the Podgorica Assembly and the disappearance of Montenegro”, Muratovic said.
