Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Elektroprivreda (EPCG) Milutin Djukanovic said that Montenegro has realistic potential to become a regional energy hub, thanks to its existing infrastructure, interconnections, and planned investments, including the development of large-scale consumers such as data centres.
Speaking at the international conference Energy 2026, held from Wednesday to Saturday in Zlatibor, he stated that the energy transition is no longer in question, adding that it is an obligation and a reality that requires swift and decisive implementation.
“The energy transition is already defined, and the key question now is how to implement it in practice, because there is no alternative,” said Djukanovic, adding that companies must have a clear vision and operational plans.
He noted that EPCG’s development is based on the concept of generating energy at the point of consumption, utilizing existing infrastructure, and accelerating the development of battery systems as key elements of a modern energy system.
Djukanovic added that more than 100 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity have already been installed across nearly ten thousand users, alongside parallel development of wind and hydropower projects.
He announced that EPCG is independently developing projects with a total capacity exceeding 600 MW by the end of 2027, while strategic partnerships are expected to bring an additional investment cycle exceeding 2 GW of new capacity.
