Podgorica, (MINA) – The Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) has initiated an investigation and criminal proceedings against four individuals, one of whom is a police officer, on suspicion of forming a criminal organization and the extended criminal offense of cigarette smuggling.

The SDT announced that, acting on a criminal complaint filed by the Special Police Department, they initiated criminal proceedings against S.J, V.M, P.R. and police officer N.S.

“The investigation concerns the smuggling of at least 13,665 packages of duty-free cigarettes, by the members of the criminal organization led by D.G. and S.S., which was formed with the aim of engaging in cigarette smuggling for the purpose of obtaining illegal profits and power”, the SDT said in a press released published on its website.

The SDT proposed that the suspects be remanded in custody, adding that against both the organizers and 14 other members of the criminal organization, the SDT had already filed indictments for the same criminal acts, which were confirmed and for which the main trial is currently ongoing before the High Court in Podgorica.
