Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimovic said that the Mediterranean is a key hub for trade and energy routes, and food supply chains, making enhanced cooperation in logistics, transport routes, and supply chain resilience a shared interest of all countries in the region.
He took part today in a video conference ministerial meeting of the MED9+ group, organized by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlic-Radman, and Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Qu Dongyu.
“The meeting brought together foreign ministers of MED9 countries, representatives of the Arab League and Western Balkan countries, as well as officials from international organizations,” the Ministry said in a press release.
Discussions focused on the challenges of global food security, supply chains, and strengthening regional cooperation amid current geopolitical circumstances.
Ibrahimovic said that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, growing instability in the Middle East, and disruptions to key maritime routes have significantly affected the global food market, further exposing the vulnerability of existing food systems.
He said it is particularly important to strengthen the links between diplomacy, financial instruments, and logistical cooperation in order to prevent food insecurity from leading to further instability and increased migration pressures.
