Cooperation with opposition and broad consensus crucial for EU integration success

Cooperation with opposition and broad consensus crucial for EU integration success

Podgorica, (MINA) – Cooperation between the government and the opposition and broad social consensus are crucial for the success of Montenegro’s European integration, it was assessed at a meeting between President and Vice-President of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Danijel Zivkovic and Aleksandra Vukovic Kuc and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.

DPS announced in a press release that during a meeting with Kos, the party delegation explained that their withdrawal from the chairing positions in the Montenegrin parliament was a response to the adoption of unconstitutional and anti-European laws on internal affairs and the National Security Agency (ANB).

They reiterated that DPS would by no means participate in the simulation of democracy and false appearance of political life of Montenegro.

“Zivkovic and Vukovic Kuc reminded Kos that the DPS has always been a constructive opposition, often even to the expense of its own rating”, stated the DPS.

Zivkovic and Vukovic Kuc explained that after the government legalized the “persecution and espionage of citizens”, DPS, as the party that established the state and opened its European perspective, could no longer act as a constructive opposition to the anti-Montenegrin and anti-European government.

“Finally, during the meeting with Commissioner Kos, it was agreed that cooperation with the opposition and broad social consensus are crucial for the success of Montenegro’s European integration, despite some recent statements from the authorities suggesting that they do not need the opposition for this state-important task”, the DPS states in a press release.
