Constitutional Court releases list of appeals to be decided by end of June

Podgorica, (MINA) - The Constitutional Court has released a list of constitutional appeals to be decided by the end of June, with the aim of improving transparency and informing citizens about the progress of their cases.

According to the press release from the Constitutional Court, the list includes 241 pending constitutional appeals from 2024, which will be decided after they have been prepared for decision.

Constitutional Court President Snezana Armenko said that the release of the list followed an initiative by the NGO Human Rights Action.

She said that the Constitutional Court is aware of the fact that citizens, before turning to them, have already covered a lengthy legal process within the regular judiciary and expect the highest constitutional body to assess their cases in line with the standards of the European Court of Human Rights.

“Despite working with a shortage of staff and facing serious limitations in IT and technical capacities, we strive to make access to the court easier for citizens and to know when they can expect their case to be decided”, said Armenko.

She also pointed to the need to adopt a new Law on the Constitutional Court, which would improve its work and align it with modern requirements, because, as she stated, many decisions that are more than a decade old have become an obstacle to everyday functioning.
