Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Montenegro should initiate a compensation claim against the Spanish energy company Fersa, as it has damaged the country’s reputation, said the chairman of the Inquiry Committee, Dritan Abazovic, adding that the case of the construction of the wind farm at the Mozura site must be thoroughly investigated.
Speaking at a meeting of the Inquiry Committee tasked with collecting information and facts regarding the actions of public authorities and other entities during the construction of the Mozura wind farm, he stated that Fersa had drawn the country into a major scandal.
“We need to examine how Fersa came to Montenegro, because the deal was questionable, and secondly, the events of 2015 and the Montenegrin government turning a blind eye to offshore companies that had no real business other than resale, from which a certain group of people extracted significant financial gain,” Abazovic said.
He noted that Montenegro lost a great deal as a result.
“Had we terminated this contract in time, the outcome would have been different, and ideally, Elektoprivreda (EPCG) would have developed this project instead of us providing subsidies,” Abazovic said.
