Podgorica, (MINA) - The Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North (MERS) organized the removal of burnt trees in Piperi on Wednesday, marking the first in a series of activities within the “Green Reconstruction of Montenegro” program, which plans the remediation of areas destroyed by last year’s wildfires.
As previously stated by the Ministry, the action represents an introduction to systemic activities that will include cleaning and reforestation of burnt areas, along with the application of modern methods such as drone-based seeding.
Head of the EU Delegation in Podgorica Johann Sattler said during the event that the key focus of the initiative is reforestation and fire prevention.
He recalled that the activity is part of the bigger campaign “Čuvaj da te čuva” which has, according to him, already produced significant results.
Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North Damjan Culafic said that five consecutive actions to clean burnt areas and eight tree-planting actions are planned, with the aim of restoring the forest fund destroyed by last year’s wildfires.
He stressed that protecting the environment is not the job of a single institution or individual, but requires the involvement of the widest community.
The Capital City representative Branka Knezevic said that in order to protect the environment, joint action is necessary, as it leads to long-term and concrete results.
