Podgorica, (MINA) - Gender equality at the local level in Montenegro is still far from reality, said the Center for Civic Education (CGO), stating that all 25 municipalities are currently headed by men.
Ahead of the International Women’s Day, CGO pointed out that no woman currently serves as mayor or president of a municipality in Montenegro.
“When it comes to deputy mayor or vice-president positions, there are 32 appointed officials in 25 municipalities, of whom eight are women (25 percent) and 24 men (75 percent)”, CGO stated in a post on the X social network.
“At the level of municipal assemblies, the situation is somewhat better – out of a total of 25 assembly presidents, nine are women, while 16 are men”, CGO stated.
According to them, these data clearly show that key political positions at the local level are still predominantly held by men, and there are still no concrete measures to ensure that women have an equal place in decision-making processes.
