Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the results of a recent study by the Centre for Economic and European Studies (CEES), the knowledge of young people about digital finance in Montenegro is limited, while some of them simultaneously use digital tools without sufficient understanding of basic concepts and risks.
These results were presented at workshops held at the Secondary Medical School in Podgorica and the Mixed Secondary School in Golubovci.
“According to the data, 19.3 percent of high school students use digital banking, while 21 percent use a digital wallet, primarily for more efficient payments and to reduce the risk of carrying a payment card,” CEES said in a press release.
The research also indicates a low level of financial literacy among young people – 48 percent of secondary school students are unfamiliar with the concept of inflation, while 68 percent do not have sufficient information about interest rates. Additionally, about 16 percent of young people would click on a link from a suspicious message or share their personal data.
The data point to the need for additional education and raising awareness about the benefits and risks of digital finance.
“As many as 61.9 percent of young people included in the survey stated that young people need more education on finance and digital security,” teacher Biljana Krivokapic said during the workshops.
The workshops focused on the possibilities for introducing elective subjects in finance in primary and secondary education, as well as ways to improve the protection of young people in the digital financial environment.
