CDT proposes legal guarantees of Prosecutorial Council’s transparency

CDT proposes legal guarantees of Prosecutorial Council’s transparency

Podgorica, (MINA) - The Center for Democratic Transition (CDT) submitted comments and proposals to the Ministry of Justice on the Draft Amendments to the Law on the State Prosecutor’s Office, with the aim of improving the transparency of the work of the Prosecutorial Council (PS), this NGO announced.

According to CDT, the proposed changes refer to the content of the minutes of Prosecutorial Council’s sessions and the way electronic sessions are held, in order to ensure that the public has clear and complete information about the work of that body.

“We proposed that the mandatory content of the minutes of the Council’s sessions be regulated more precisely by law. The minutes would have to contain basic information about the session, including data on the course of the session and the content of the discussions, information on the way the Council members voted, as well as the reasons for voting, if the member requests it," the statement says.

The need for such a change, as they said from the CDT, stems from visible fluctuation in the level of transparency of the minutes from the Council’s sessions.

It is stated that in the practice of the current composition, the amount of information contained in the minutes is significantly reduced, so they often do not allow the interested public to adequately follow the work of the Council.
