Brammertz: Montenegrin prosecution making significant process in prosecuting war crimes

Podgorica, (MINA) – The State Prosecutor’s Office of Montenegro has made significant progress and achieved concrete results in the prosecution of war crimes, said Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, Serge Brammertz.

According to the press release from the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office (VDT), Brammertz made this assessment in the latest Progress Report covering the period from November 16 last year to May 15 this year.

“The start of the trial in the case against Z.G., accused of crimes committed in the area of Hadzici, is a confirmation that the close cooperation between the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) and the Office of the Prosecutor of the Mechanism is yielding concrete results, since the case originated from one of the two investigative files that the Mechanism had previously forwarded to the SDT”, the VDT stated in a press release.

According to the press release, the Office of the Prosecutor of the Mechanism would continue to provide the SDT with necessary assistance, expressing expectation that even greater progress in the prosecution of war crimes will be achieved in the coming period.
