Podgorica, (MINA) – Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) MP Zoja Bojanic Lalovic has resigned from her position as a co-chair of the Women’s Club of the Parliament of Montenegro.
Speaking at the press conference, she said that it was a politically responsible move in the current parliamentary circumstances.
“In the circumstances in which the parliamentary majority systematically undermines democratic procedures, ignores the warnings of the opposition and international partners and turns the Parliament into a space for political bargaining, without essential dialogue, I consider it politically responsible to resign from the position of co-chair of the Women’s Club”, said Bojanic Lalovic.
She pointed out that the decision is in line with the position of DPS MPs, who previously resigned from positions in the parliamentary committees, as well as from the position of deputy speaker of the parliament.
According to Bojanic Lalovic, the resignation is a political protest against the way the parliamentary majority adopts key laws, including laws on internal affairs and the National Security Agency.
“The opposition does not want to lend legitimacy with its participation to a practice that looks more and more like a simulation of democracy, and less and less like a genuine parliamentary process”, said Bojanic Lalovic.
