Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro remains a reliable ally that does not ask for privileges but delivers results, said Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Defense, Fight against Crime and Interior Affairs, Aleksa Becic.
According to the press release from his office, Becic met in Washington with prominent members of the U.S. Congress, Chellie Pingree and Robert Aderholt.
“With Pingree, who is also co-chair of the Montenegrin caucus, he discussed key topics of common interest in the area of security, democracy and stability of the Western Balkans”, the press release states.
Becic pointed out that Montenegro, although small in terms of population, remains a reliable NATO ally, a country with a clear strategic course towards full membership in the EU.
“Today it is the most advanced candidate on the EU path, with all open negotiation chapters and six already closed, with a strong political will to close the others soon”, said Becic.
According to the press release, Pingree expressed her strong support for Montenegro.
“Expressing special appreciation for the courage and results achieved by Becic, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Police Administration, the Special Prosecutor’s Office and other institutions of the system in the fight against crime”, the statement says.
According to the press release, she emphasized the importance of economic empowerment of citizens as the key to overcoming social divisions and further strengthening democracy.
