Becic: Montenegro needs urgent electoral legislation reform

 

Podgorica, (MINA) –Montenegro should urgently amend its electoral legislation in line with recommendations from its European partners, especially in the part regarding organizing the local elections on a single day, in order to reduce the frequency of electoral processes, said Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Becic.

He hosted a welcome party for the German delegation, led by the Minister of the Interior of Saxony-Anhalt, Tamara Zieschang, at the Sipcanik Wine Cellar.

According to the press release from Becic’s office, members of the delegation included members of the provincial parliament of Lower Saxony, as well as representatives of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation.

Speaking about the rule of law, Becic said that the country has entered a historic confrontation with tobacco and drug cartels and all other forms of crime.

Becic said that professional, honest and courageous individuals are finally leading the institutions of key importance for success in this most important fight, in cooperation with international partners.

Zieschang, according to the press release, emphasized her strong support for Montenegro’s fight against crime and corruption and the current vetting process in the security sector.

According to her, the fight against corruption is crucial for restoring public trust in institutions, but also for Montenegro’s reputation in the international community.
