Becic: EC clearly states Montenegro can adopt laws on internal affairs and ANB

Podgorica, (MINA) – The European Commission (EC) has clearly stated that Montenegro has been harmonizing the laws on Internal Affairs and the National Security Agency (ANB) and is therefore able to adopt them, said Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Defense, Fight against Crime and Internal Affairs Aleksa Becic.

He said that the attempts to create artificial noise by the opponents of every possible reform in the security sector in the past two years, followed by the cheapest possible manipulative interpretations of the EC’s review of two legal acts in the field of security, ended quickly, ingloriously and as expected.

“The EC has clearly announced that Montenegro has been harmonizing the laws with the Commission, that Montenegro can adopt the laws in question, and that only the section regarding data protection will need to be fully aligned by the end of the accession negotiations, which is already foreseen by the Government’s amendments, has been pointed out several times, and was never the subject of these amendments, but part of the existing legislation”, said Becic.

He stated that the EC’s green light for the adoption of these laws is not surprising, explaining that whoever truly supports Montenegro in fighting crime, strengthening capacities, eliminating illicit influences, and successfully completing the European path, cannot be against reform laws.

“In the past two years, every reform carried out in the security sector faced obstructions, accompanied by uproar, and every security event, even those common in the most developed countries of the world, was often exaggerated with the sole aim of attacking the security sector, diverting attention and stopping the reforms”, Becic stressed.

According to him, the sense of justice and the strength of the state are returning, and the time of the protected is over.

“Criminals are no longer dictating to the state, they are being apprehended or forced into hiding in panic. There are no untouchables, and all those involved in crime and corruption should not sleep peacefully”, Becic emphasized.
