Analysis underway for “Roam Like at Home” implementation in Montenegro

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Mtel is currently analyzing the steps necessary for Montenegro’s inclusion in the European roaming regime in communication with the Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (EKIP) aimed at ensuring better understanding the legal and technical frameworks that must be met.

The telecommunications company told the Mina-business agency that the introduction of the European roaming regime Roam Like at Home (RLAH) involves a complex and multi-layered adjustment process that goes beyond mere technical implementation.

“First of all, significant adjustments to retail prices in roaming zones I and II are expected for all mobile packages. This includes intensive changes to billing systems, thorough verification of new tariff models, as well as updates to official price lists,” Mtel said in response to a question about how they are preparing for the country’s inclusion in the European roaming regime.

According to Mtel, aligning wholesale roaming costs with partner operators and adjusting existing roaming agreements in order to ensure long-term sustainability of the “roam like at home” model poses an additional challenge.

“This requires a detailed analysis of existing wholesale tariffs, possible changes to contractual terms, as well as continuous monitoring of roaming traffic costs, in order to minimize financial risks and ensure business stability under new regulatory conditions,” the company explained.

EKIP previously announced that Montenegro could become part of the European roaming market by the end of this year or the beginning of next year, depending on the pace at which it meets the necessary preconditions.
