Analysis of the tourism potential of Zabljak

Zabljak, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Municipality of Zabljak has begun preparing a new Local Tourism Development Strategy, aimed at upgrading local tourism products and creating a long-term, sustainable, competitive, and year-round model for destination development.

The strategy development process is being implemented through the Transformation with TransDinarica – Phase 2 project, funded by the European Union, with support from the Interreg Danube Programme and the International Development Agency of Croatia (MARA).

“For the purpose of drafting the Strategy, a comprehensive survey was conducted among tourists, local residents, and businesses in the Municipality of Zabljak to obtain a realistic picture of the current situation, identify key challenges, and define guidelines for the development of sustainable and inclusive tourism,” the local administration said in a press release.

While tourists generally have a very positive perception, confirming Zabljak’s reputation as a nature and active-holiday destination, local residents and business owners are aware of the challenges and key areas that need improvement in the coming period.

Survey results show that Zabljak is visited by higher-spending guests, including those with monthly incomes exceeding €5,000.

The average stay is three days, while more than 55 percent of tourists arrived based on recommendations, and 39 percent visited the destination for the first time.

“These data indicate a strong reputation for Zabljak, but also highlight the need to develop infrastructure and service quality in line with the expectations of these visitors,” the press release said.
