All institutions to be involved in fight against eco-crime

Podgorica, (MINA) – All institutions in Montenegro should be more strongly involved in the fight against eco-crime, with the zero tolerance principle towards these illegal activities.

This was concluded after an operational meeting dedicated to the fight against eco-crime, attended by representatives of the Regional Waterworks, the EU Delegation in Montenegro, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Police Administration, the Space Protection Service, the Water Inspectorate, as well as representatives of the NGO sector and environmental activists.

According to the press release from the Regional Waterworks Montenegrin Coast, one of the concrete results of cooperation highlighted at the meeting was the successful continuation of the “Kayak” action, aimed at combating illegal excavations in the Moraca riverbed, which involved the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Inspectorate, with support from the Army of Montenegro.

The Regional Waterworks recalled that during the operation, a truck and a machine found at an illegal excavation on Monday morning were temporarily confiscated.

“The meeting agreed that this action represents a clear warning to all those planning to continue illegal exploitation, with the expectation that the state will systematically and permanently solve the problem of illegal activities in the Moraca riverbed in the coming period”, the press release said.
