Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The president of the United Reform Action (URA), Dritan Abazovic, called on Members of Parliament to vote against the Government’s decision to award a concession for Montenegro’s airports to the South Korean company Incheon International Airport Corporation, stating that doing so would protect the national interests.
He said in his podcast that the Government’s decision constitutes an undervalued transfer of public resources and noted that the tender procedure was highly controversial and indicative of corruption.
“What we would receive through the concession is what we already receive when the airports are fully state-owned. Each year, the state should earn €30–33 million, amounting to €1 billion over 30 years,” Abazovic said.
According to a press release from URA, he also stated that such a decision would show solidarity with employees of Airports of Montenegro, who would only be protected for the first several years.
“This Government clearly wants to sell off and dismantle everything that exists in Montenegro,” Abazovic said.
He added that, lacking any ideas to improve our economic, political, and cultural situation, the Government follows the policy of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), planning to sell all state-owned resources.
“They want to hand over two airports to a private entity for less than the cost of a single aircraft,” Abazovic concluded.
